Question about C&C3 multiplayer

I'd like to play C&C3 with a friend like we used to years ago. One of us lost our copy so I checked it out on Steam and saw this note:

Note: As of June 2014, our friends at GameSpy have ended all hosted game services, which will affect the online multiplayer aspect of this game. Because of technical challenges and concerns, EA does not have a solution to keep these services up and running at this time, and online services for this game and other EA games on the GameSpy platform have ended.

Does this mean all multiplayer has ended? Will my friend and I not be able to connect to each other's games?

So on the surface, C&C is a fun (if niche) real-time strategy game, right? No real life parallels at all, right?

Well, the first three (sorry Red Alert 2) were released over twenty years ago, and look where we've come! UN vs terrorists practically mirrors the GDI vs Nod conflict. Cyber-security? Check. Lasers? Check. Early-stage hovercraft technology? Check. Fake news? Check. Deep fakes (a la the majority of Kane's onscreen appearances in Tiberian Sun)? Check.

So I guess the purpose of this post is two-fold. First, what other things did Westwood "predict" accurately? Secondly (and let's try to keep this from getting too ugly), if the Brotherhood of Nod appeared in our world, in what ways would Kane be a "polarizing figure" for the political groups of our world?
