Tiberium: Science Fiction, Horror and Love. Why I have come to love the tiberium universe? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 06:25 AM PDT Crystal, Alien, Resource. 1995 and we are introduced to the world of the future. A world where a green crystal has become the foremost resource for any and all markets. War breaks out somewhere around 1998 between the Brotherhood of Nod and the UN backed GDI over control of the resource. GDI wins. Peace has returned or so it would seem. As the war progressed, tiberium would spread all across the world. Nod seeding it to utilize it for its own war effort. Suddenly realization dawns that the crystal isn't purely beneficial. Millions die of tiberium poisoning, mutated trees resembling fleshy protrusions spew crystalline seeds into the air. Over the next 30 years, humanity is steadily pushed back by the ever growing presence of the alien crystal. Mutating the world around it. What was once the vision of an efficient and future resource has now become a nightmare. Cities become fortified, the wilderness is lost. Civilians have to remain inside the safe barriers of civilizations or languish alone with the risk of destruction and death. During the first war mutations like visceroids appeared, now they are larger than ever before. Meaty bulbous visceroids the size of tanks roam around, spewing liquid tiberium. The bodies of their victims, men and animals alike being consumed inside. Mysterious mouthlike vine growths cover the surface., spewing noxious gas and reacts to humans with aggression. Houndlike beings that grow taller than any man, their backs covered in tiberium. Mysterious fungi like fauna starts growing, creating an ever spreading alien environment. Jellyfish like beings float in the skies, bringing destruction wherever they go and waterways are clogged with algae like strains of tiberium. It is the GENESIS of new life on Earth. Glaciers of the crystaline structure ravage the surface, leaving scars that will never recover. Ion storms devestate the atmosphere as the mediterranean slowly evaporates, leaving Europe a crystaline wasteland, a green desert marked by death. Man is pushed into the colder climates of Canada, Scandinavia and Siberia or ultimately Space. Amongst these crystalline wastes roam humans who long ago lost their purity. Now infected with the same alien terror. Their bodies sprouting green, glowing veins that are spreading across their bodies. Forgotten by the rest of mankind. Man's own creation turns against itself without vision. Trapping mankindn in mechanical prisons. Knowledge of ancient beings in a orb of light. A civilization long since gone and of an unknown origin that only one being on Earth truly understand. Hope or despair, no one knows. The Earth is slowly being lost. We look to the stars, the void beyond hoping to find a solution. Yet are met by the gaze of ancient beings, older and more terrifying than anything occuring on our toxic, and scarred world. Humanity stands amidst the green, glowing and dark brown wasteland of a formerly blue world. Alone in the night, their spark slowly being suffocated. But they won't go quietly... ---- I just wanted to write something in relation to this amazing series and its world building. I feel that the concepts and world of tiberium is so vast and possible with so many things yet underused in media. But from the games we can gleam a universe so different and frightening from our own and it is what makes us love it. Thank you all the developers of C&C who brought this world to us. Even if I left parts of three out, I still think they did a great job but changed the portrayal of it as a terraforming agent like in Tibsun. [link] [comments]

The "Initiative" in "Global Defense Initiative" Posted: 21 Apr 2020 05:20 PM PDT I've long pondered the question of what the "Initiative" part of GDI's long form name is supposed to mean. None of the established meanings of the noun have any relevance to what GDI is about or how it's organized; we can't even say that it's an artifact of the treaty that led to its creation, because said treaty is canonically called the "United Nations Global Defense Act" (although one cutscene from Red Alert refers to a "military funding initiative" for the "formation of a global defense agency", ironically using "initiative" in accordance with one of its dictionary definitions). However, I noticed that some fictional organizations and projects bear the word in their name in a manner that makes it seem like it's used as a stand-in or synonym for "program" or "project" (eg. the DHARMA Initiative); hell, there's a real-life example in the Strategic Defense Initiative that seems to do the same. What are your thoughts on the matter? [link] [comments]
Will EA Take Away One of the Reasons that C&C is Still Alive Today? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 03:58 PM PDT All of the C&C games from the first C&C to Red Alert 2 have been released with LAN and lacked DRM. All of the games allowed you to mod units, maps, and gameplay mechanics to anyway you like. Your imagination was basically the limit. It was probably the freedom that these games allowed, the major reason why they have a devoted fan base and thus Cncnet.org today. Otherwise, the franchise probably would've probably been just a side note and tomb stoned along Westwood Studios and this remaster wouldn't even be happening. So what will EA, who have been very anti aforementioned things, do with C&C remastered when it releases? Will it be released with all the the reasons that other C&C is sustained for more than 2 decades? From my vantage point, nothing about C&C remastered is appealing unless it's DRM free, LAN, and Fully mod supported. For that reason, the remastered collection probably won't sit along side with my C&C collection. If it wants my money, it will have be DRM free, include LAN, and fully mod supported. Posted: 20 Apr 2020 06:19 PM PDT With the announcement of C&C Remastered, it makes me hopeful for the series. C&C has been one of my favorite franchises and it's nice seeing it get some love again. However, my favorite game of the series belongs to Generals: ZH. Is there any word on which games they are going to remaster? Or if the original is the only one getting remade? Of course, the Devs have other projects at the moment (primarily with the current work on C&C Remastered) but I'm just wondering if the other games of the franchise have a chance at getting remade. I Missed Out On The Collectors Edition, Will There Be Similar Products/Releases? Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:53 AM PDT Hello everyone, the title really says it all, when I first heard about the remastered edition I was really hyped, I was thinking of getting the collectors edition (one of the two) for my shelf, unfortunately, I missed out on the crucial detail that the collections run ended April 10th, in the end, I'll still be buying the game by itself but I'm bummed about it, anyways I was wondering if there is any possibility of another big box esque version being available at a later point in time, or if there might be more of these for the other games in the series. Thanks all. [link] [comments]

We MUST preorder and support the remaster. Posted: 21 Apr 2020 01:45 PM PDT I know that this seems like and anti-consumer advice, and boy will we look moronic if the remaster launch flops or EA goes back on its word and implements loot boxes/in-game store. But coming from the market perspective, the Classic RTS is on life support. Microtransactions and mobile have made the triple-A company nearly a billion dollars in revenue. There is not an endless supply of good and competent developers, which means the developer's focus will be shifted on those games instead of RTS unless there are financial incentives to do otherwise. I truly dread the future without RTS games but a massive amount of P2W mobile games. So I will Preorder this game and hope you will as well to communicate it loud and clearly to EA, WE WANT THIS!
