[TD Remastered] Multiplayer tip of the week: GDI Survival!

Continuing on in this tip of the week series - a couple pointers for the GDI players out there having a hard time against the Nodders on ladder!

Dealing with lack of Anti Air -v- Apaches

One of the biggest headaches of GDI is dealing with Nod apaches in the early game. When trying to face this keep the following in mind:

    • Avoid massing infantry and leaving them idle for the Nod players to pick off one at a time. You want to try prevent them getting their monies worth from an early Apache investment, they can't snipe your infantry if theres none there! Watch the replays of regular GDI players like DK, CriticalMeds, AOD Gaming, Danku and see how they keep low number of early infantry on the field (generally you want a couple to try scout/anti-scout) but don't over commit for defensive purposes. If you are worried about being able to protect key structures consider having a rax nearby them for quick infantry defense production.
    • If necessary the only anti air option you have early as GDI is 2-3 rocketmen, however at 300 each an apache can quickly reimburse their investment so be cautious if you are going to use infantry, traditionally I would only recommend rocketmen if your opponent is going to snipe your War Factory / Construction Yard with multiple apaches
    • Generally speaking as GDI you have to ignore the anti-air solutions as they are too costly, whether its teching towards AGTs (too much time to get a comm centre up), teching towards mammoths (needing to invest in a repairbay) or just throwing rocketmen at them - they're all bad solutions. Don't even consider teching to MLRS tech (maybe if EA rebalanced it and put those behind comms... but the balance is what it is).

    Utilising Grens Effectively

Theres a few things to consider when it comes to your use of grenadiers

    • Nod players can only pick off your grens in location at a time, consider keeping them in clusters of 3-5 units across multiple points of the map, it's difficult for Nod to hold off attacks on multiple fronts, even if it is only 3 grens you can pull off huge damage/snipes while they deal with a full frontal attack or similar
    • Keep them spread out, having infantry in clusters lets the splash damage of apaches wreak havoc! X key is useful to keep infantry scattered, also useful if they're about to get squished!
    • When it comes to defense, consider using Minigunners over Grenadiers, due to the speed of Nod vehicles against top players who micro well your grens may have a difficult time hitting units, whereas minigunners are much more effective at hitting recon bikes, particularly when used around your medium tanks as a defensive barrier.

    Timing Pushes

    • Watch the replays of top GDI players and youll start to see that quite often theyll pump out a clump of grens for timing pushes alongside med tanks to instantly put pressure on their opponents. Being able to have multiple raxes speeds up your production rate immensely, so it becomes super easy to get a massive force of destruction in seconds to overwhelm your opponent when they least expect it

Keep on fighting the good fight GDI commanders!

[Tiberian Sun] Vietnam Combat Operations Mod | Tiberian Sun 22nd Anniversary Late Addition!

    Posted: 06 Sep 2021 07:56 AM PDT

As a bit of a late entry to the Tiberian Sun anniversary celebrations I recorded a little overview of the Vietnam Combat Operations mod - a mod made by Tiger Yan - the culmination of about 20 years worth of research and work!

It's a pretty astounding piece of work, its a little rough around the edges but he has put together something special with this particularly for those with a historic interest in the Vietnam war. Definitely worth checking out -> download links etc. in video description!

Is blue tiberium basically just gems from RA1 and RA2?

    Posted: 05 Sep 2021 05:29 PM PDT

Mechanically, that is. (worth double value per worker time/capacity)

with some additional dangerous to be around to go with the general theme of Tiberium being the toxic resource compared to Spice/Ore/Gems.
