Imagine a world, where Westwood lives and takes the place of Blizzard Entertainment... Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:18 PM PDT Let's return to early 2000s and imagine a very familiar, yet different situation: After the release of the most popular MMORPG in the world, Earth & Beyond, Westwood Studios becomes the most prolific game developer in history, with EA, its publisher, earning enormous sums of of money and becoming a Number One company in the gaming industry. Westwood continues to work on their MMO, releasing new expansions each year and in the next few years produces Command & Conquer 3: Tiberian Incursion. The third game in the popular RTS series becomes a huge success; its also the only RTS to retain a large player base after the decline of the genre and the advent of MOBAs. International tournaments are being held, millions of people watch them on Twitch and other streaming services. The North American scene is a phenomenon, with the game gaining an almost religious following. C&C 3 is also quite successful in South Korea, where the RTS genre remains relatively unpopular among gamers. After releasing C&C 3, Westwood decides to revisit its RPG roots. Nox 2, a fantasy hack'n'slash game, becomes the fastest-selling title on PC, selling over 3.5 million copies in the first 24 hours of its release. Soon, the game is also released on every major console platform of the generation, becoming an immediate hit. In the mid-2010s Westwood Studios is looking forward to expanding their portfolio with titles in such genres as MOBA and team-based multiplayer FPS. A mobile gaming department is established... ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alright, I could go on with this all day. The post is not meant to be taken too seriously and the situation described would be very unlikely for many reasons. Having played numerous Westwood games for years, I realized that the the company that made C&C, Nox, Blade Runner, Lands of Lore and other great games used to be very different from their main competitor (if there ever really had been a competition...), different in many ways. The people behind these titles, the way they treated their games, their fans, their relationships with publishers... Westwood was Westwood and Blizzard is... was... Well, Blizzard once used to be Blizzard. Each company had their successes and falls, made great decisions and stupid mistakes, and both became Legends, whose legacy will live on for many years to come. Another thing I'd like to add is that I'm happy with C&C remastered and see it as a sign of great things to come for the franchise. Of course, I miss Westwood, but with mod and content creators, guys like Jimtern and teams like Petroglyph and LemonSky our beloved series is in good hands. Or so it seems... Please, share you vision for an "alternate universe" Westwood in the comments. Do you think the company had a chance of staying alive and kicking? What would the modern Westwood Studios look like? How do I beat Nod Mission 8b in the remaster? Posted: 14 Jun 2020 10:44 AM PDT So I've been playing through the remaster in the last week or so, having a blast. I beat the GDI campaign on normal, was fun but challenging. Now I'm on the Nod campaign, also on normal. It's been pretty smooth sailing up until this level where you start with the small collection of units up top, have to fight your way through a tank and some GDI soldiers and then sell the abandoned CY to make some engineers and chopper them down to a small GDI base and capture the buildings. But I find that if I even manage to capture all of the buildings properly and even set up a couple guard towers, GDI launches an air strike on my base almost immediately and usually ends up killing my harvester, meaning I'm screwed. I know in the old version, the air strike always targeted your northern most unit, so it was easy to cheese. But now I believe it targets your most expensive concentration of units/buildings. I mean, that's good that they made it a little harder and realistic. But that also means that this mission seems kinda impossible. Has anyone managed to beat this level? If so, can you offer any tips please? [link] [comments]

Does anyone have tips for mastering the campaign on hard? Posted: 14 Jun 2020 10:12 AM PDT I played a lot as a kid in the 90s, but I was young and terrible at the game, I just endlessly replayed the first missions one easy lol. I just beat the 4th Soviet mission on Hard, and it's actually tougher than expected. I beat the 3rd mission with 1 grenade dude left with a sliver of health, and the 4th mission was quite the grind-fest of launching assaults, retreating, repairing my tanks, defending, rinse and repeat. The allies seemed to get constant reinforcements for free which was annoying. I want to beat everything on Hard for the glory of Mother Russia, I'm worried Stalin will have me executed if I fail any missions. What are your tips for fighting the AI in the campaigns and getting good on hard? I'm going to try out the other campaigns soon. [link] [comments]
Intense lag whenever a fight goes down. Especially in skirmish. Posted: 14 Jun 2020 08:30 AM PDT Hey everyone, I am experiencing some choppy and stuttered game play when ever a fight goes down. Its worst in red alert then cnc. I cannot micro units and the mouse doesn't seem to register very well. Turning down the graphics and resolutions changes nothing. Is anyone else experiencing this? Do the developers know and they will fix it? [link] [comments]

Is Nod / Allies meant to be harder? Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:36 PM PDT I have managed to get through the GDI campaign with only one major setback, and the Soviet campaign so far has been quite easy (except for one mission). However, the Allied Campaign feels a lot more difficult, and every single Nod mission I attempt results in me consulting guides and speed run videos to work out how to beat them. So are these campaigns meant to be harder? Or am I just sucking more than usual? [link] [comments]
What's up with the new GDI airstrike behaviour? Posted: 14 Jun 2020 02:41 PM PDT Apparently in the DOS version the GDI airstrikes would just attack the most northern unit you have but now they go for the most valuable one. This leads to situations like in Nod mission 9A where the planes will kill your commando shortly after getting the engineers. Considering that the base is attacked by tons of infantry after capturing the base, this completely changes the level. I thought the gameplay was supposed to be the same as in the original, other than QOL fixes, and it was just the presentation that was changed? [link] [comments] |
