C&C Remastered FMV mod - For if you prefer the original cutscenes from the MS-DOS games Posted: 26 Sep 2020 01:57 PM PDT Just realised I never got round to making a post for these; I'm a big fan of the work done to upscale the FMVs in the Remasters, the briefings look fantastic even with the lower-res ones. There are especially a few VQA-sourced cutscenes that upscaled surprisingly well, such as the RA MIG cutscene. Unfortunately, there are a few that didn't come out so well, such as the TD cutscene with the blossom trees in a graveyard, where there appears to be more bitrate noise than the original files. Also, the EVA cutscenes in TD were clearly designed specifically for pixel-perfect playback, and look really bad in any other format. One of my pre-release requests was the option to toggle FMVs the way you can with the in-game graphics; there's just something charming about that retro FMV look. Understandably, this wasn't incorporated. As it stands, about 15GB of the game's 25-ish GB are just video. Most of the Remastered videos are around 700x400, with pretty much only the Nod and Retaliation cutscenes being upscaled the 1920x1080, probably to save space. There were a few people who wondered why the games were so big at launch; video is huge. I've taken the original VQA files from the DOS games (rather than the M-JPEG cutscenes from PlayStation, which the Remasters predominantly used as a base) and nearest-neighbour scaled these 320x156 cutscenes up to 1920x1080 (stretched vertically slightly to a more natural ratio). This preserves the big blocky pixels and makes for the best facsimile of what they looked like playing the original games on DOS (no scanlines). However, scaling every video in the base games to this size results in massive downloads. There are two mods, one for TD and one for RA, and together they're almost as big as the game itself. You can find the mods by searching in-game for 'cutscenes' for each game, or from these links to Steam: TD, RA. If you're on Origin, you may need to use a tool to download the mod, then install it manually in the mods folder. Like I say, these mods are huge, but they only replace the cutscenes in the DOS games, the cutscenes from the expansions/console exclusives are left as-is. I did drop in the original DOS installation sequences as a bonus though, you can play those in the bonus gallery. Thanks to CCHyper for help, and for the original idea! BTW if you want to see these cutscenes in action with much more detail than here, here's a video [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Sep 2020 10:34 PM PDT Remember how I said I had big news for you peeps!!?? So, we can't promise anything. But we might have some really cool autographed stuff going up for charity auction in time for Christmas. It might include some One-Off Pieces and PC Parts you see in the video. If enough of you spread this as fast as you can over the next 72-hours, maybe I can use this when I email them later next week. You guess who I;m talking about.... About gamepad support for command and conquer remastered Posted: 26 Sep 2020 04:19 AM PDT Yeah, I know. I'm totally shameless. I played these games on ps1 and I like playing with a controller. So, I have a question. Is this game compatible with a switch pro controller, xbox 360 controller, ps4 controller, or ps4 controller emulating an xbox 360 controller? Thanks. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Sep 2020 11:44 PM PDT Hi, I have recently revisited multiplayer feature in C&C. I see one new feature, you need to play 3 games to get ranked. Much to my surprise after winning one and losing two games I was ranked 250 something. My question is have you noticed that player base have dramatically decreased compared to two months ago? It looks to me that only hard core players remained. A few months ago I usually won 4 or 5 games before running into tough opponents, but now every game is a challenge? [link] [comments] |
